The following Facebook post regarding Jahana Hayes' performance at the most recent debate held in Torrington was written by Danbury Democratic Town Committee member Martha Rhodes.
As a person of color, I feel that a large percentage of this unhinged rant reeks of a form of white privilege that I normally associate with Republicans. Although I don’t have a dog in this primary (I feel that Mary Glassman or Hayes would be better than any of the GOP candidates), I sincerely hope that caucasian supporters don’t feel “excluded” as a white person when Hayes “harps” on her life experience, “harps” on the lack of diversity in government, or characterizes Hayes commentary as “veiling her own racism with allusions to diversity.”
In other words...as a society, everyone should condemn Rhodes' outlandish and disparaging form of criticism as it has no business in our political discourse.
The backlash against Rhodes insensitive and racist rant was swift and included words of condemnation from former congressional candidate Daniel Roberti...
...Progressive activist and Green Party candidate for Attorney General Peter Goselin...
...as well as Hayes herself.
Danbury Democrats are better than this...and at this point, Rhodes would do a world of good if she handed the DDTC chairperson her resignation.
