Has Mayor Boughton and the Republicans gone too far and when will the News-Times report on the real news?
Time: 2:14 PM
You see, the News-Times has failed this community as it doesn't consistantly report on local politics. Time and time again, things go on politically in this area without any reporting or oversight and it simply has to stop. The media has a responsibility to inform the public about the activities of our government whether it's at the federal, state, or local level. Unfortunately, the News-Times doesn't seem to get the point.
When's the last time you read about a Common Council meeting? How about an EIC meeting? Board of Ed meeting? Planning and Zoning? How about an article about anything happening in local government that might be of interest to the public? When it comes to the News-Times, you get little of no local hard news stories and more "feature" stories and endless AP articles. It makes you wonder if the reporters are allowed to leave their desks.
Where am I going with this...okay, I'll get to the point.
After years of collecting material, I'm ready to start showing people the stuff the newspapers fail to do which is report on what's happening in the area and hopefully, you, the reader, will be better informed. From Mayor Boughton, Pauline Basso and the Republican-controlled Common Council, to the Democratic Party, immigrants, and apathetic voters, no one will be spared from my reporting. Trust me, I have no problem going after anyone whether it's a liberal or conservative so don't be fooled, my only interest is informing the public.
On that note, lets begin with the top dog in town, Mayor Boughton and the Republican majority. Lately some of the Mayor's decisions (backed by the Republicans) have REALLY angered Democrats and even left a couple of his most popular defenders scratching their heads.
I'll let the video tell the story.
Interesting huh?
Now just think about this for a second.
• The Mayor and Republican majority blocked the Democrats from putting something on the Common Council agenda?
• The broadcasting of government meetings are too expensive yet a doggie park is okay?
Notice any of this irony addressed in a News-Times editorial? Did you even hear about any part of the August Common Council meeting in the News-Times?
You get my point. As long as YOU are not informed, politicans can say AND get away with just about anything in this area. In the end, WE all lose.
Like I said before, certain people are now on notice and I'm not kidding.
