On Monday and Tuesday, HatCityBLOG will bring you everything you need to know about the proposed so-called parade ordinance.
From interviews of Democrats and Republicans on the Common Council, to exposing the misinformation flowing from Mayor Boughton and his administration (as well as the use of the "immigration card"), this site will give you a detailed analysis on one of the most misleading piece of legislation in the history of Danbury.
Why are we doing this? Because the mainstream media has failed the public in terms of properly informing them about the ordinance. They've allowed the mayor to mislead the public about the impact this ordinance will have on spontaneous parades, and allow anti-immigrant xenophobes such as Elise Marciano to use the media as a vehicle to spread her "point-of-view" to the public unchallenged.
We here at HatCityBLOG will do everything in our power to show the public:
• The true story behind this proposal,
• Expose the lies flowing out of the mouths of the anti-immigrant community,
• Explain why Common Council President Joe Cavo MUST issue an apology to the entire Common Council and members of the public regarding his outrageous partisan comments at last months meeting,
• And finally, give YOU all the information you need in order to make a sound decision, demand that democracy be upheld, and call on the mayor to stop misleading the public and interfering with the will of the majority of the legislative branch of government in Danbury.
From misleading information on the parade ordinance, to squashing questions from the critics of the BRT tax giveaway and not taking responsibility for the foreseen traffic nightmare at Elmer's Diner, it's clear that the Mayor is out of touch with the concerns of the people in Danbury and will run this city as he sees fit (regardless of opinion). The era of the low-information voter in the city needs to come to an end and HatCityBLOG will give you all the tools in order to make an educated opinion. With over 7000+ people viewing this site in the last month, and 450-700 in the last THREE days, we must be doing something right.
...developing.

06.03.22 (OP-ED): KUSHNER: "Career Academy ‘a great deal for Danbury"
On September 26, 2007, ten plaintiffs filed suit in response to an arrest of aday laborers at a public park in Danbury, Connecticut. Plaintiffs amended their complaint on November 26, 2007.
The amended complaint states that plaintiffs sought to remedy the continued discriminatory and unauthorized enforcement of federal immigration laws against the Latino residents of the City of Danbury by Danbury's mayor and its police department.
Plaintiffs allege that the arrests violated their Fourth Amendment rights and the Connecticut Constitution because defendants conducted the arrests without valid warrants, in the absence of exigent circumstances, and without probable cause to believe that plaintiffs were engaged in unlawful activity. In addition, plaintiffs allege that defendants improperly stopped, detained, investigated, searched and arrested plaintiffs. Plaintiffs also allege that defendants violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights when they intentionally targeted plaintiffs, and arrested and detained them on the basis of their race, ethnicity and perceived national origin. Plaintiffs raise First Amendment, Due Process and tort claims.
Plaintiffs request declaratory relief, damages and attorneys fees.
