The Danbury Area Refugee Assistance is seeking to co-sponsor a refugee family who will settle in the area in the coming months. In partnership with the New-Haven based Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, the coalition has committed to finding and furnishing an apartment for the refugees, helping the adults find jobs, registering the children in school and connecting the family to health and social services.
The fundraising dinner will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road in Danbury. The event will feature a jazz band, belly dancing, a silent auction, an open bar and other offerings. Tickets are $45 at the door.
The group, which is led by Bethel resident James Naddeo, was formed last fall and it’s still not a tax-exempt organization, so all donations are considered gifts and are not tax exempt.
