The Brookfield Journal is the most conservative friendly paper in the area and even they had a hard time finding anything resembling dirt on Congressman Murphy.
If Cappiello wants to make the election look interesting, he'll need to do more than senseless attacks on a Congressman who beat his buddy Nancy Johnson ON EVERY VOTING MACHINE IN DANBURY.
Well, another one of Danbury's traditions is fading away.
Like the great Moffa's (oh, I miss that place...CURSE YOU DUCHESS), Marcus Dairy is bowing down to modern retail stores and restaurants, which has drastically transformed the landscape of Danbury.
According to the News-Times, the new development will honor the Dairy.
The family's proposal, called The Shops at Marcus Dairy, will maintain some of the existing feel of the dairy. The designers want to include the dairy's 50-foot white milk tank in the design.

Although the old building, located on Sugar Hollow Road, will be demolished, the family plans to re-open the dairy bar so at least when my daughter grows up, I can tell her of the days when bikers ruled the area on Sunday mornings...
The gas fire in Bethel was the talk of the media yesterday. I missed WTNH's coverage as I attempted to drive to the scene (didn't get close enough for a good shot), but I was able to catch FOX61's quick report.
A pavement grinder ripping up asphalt on South Street struck a gas line Thursday afternoon, sparking a fire that destroyed the machine and left some 200 residents without power.
The gas-fed fire burned for almost four hours before a crew from Yankee Gas managed to locate a shutoff valve buried under the roadway.
"Thankfully, no one was hurt," Highway Department Superintendent Bob Dibble said.
The accident occurred about 3:45 p.m. on a section of South Street near Taylor Avenue. The machine was grinding up the old asphalt in preparation for repaving the roadway.
"I was about 20 feet behind the machine," Dibble said. "There was a 'whoomp' kind of noise, and a big fireball shot into the air."

Residents of several nearby homes were evacuated, and train service on the nearby Metro-North commuter line was delayed.
Burke said firefighters extinguished the blaze at about 7:30 p.m. after a utility crew turned off the gas.
The flames melted part of the siding on one house at the corner of Taylor Avenue and South Street, but the occupants weren't injured.
Burke said he expected electricity to be turned back on by about 2 a.m. Friday.
A federal judge on Thursday struck down the city of Hazleton's tough anti-immigration law, ruling unconstitutional a measure that has been copied around the country.
The city's Illegal Immigration Relief Act sought to impose fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants and deny business permits to companies that give them jobs. Another measure would have required tenants to register with City Hall and pay for a rental permit.
U.S. District Judge James Munley voided the law Thursday based on testimony from a nine-day trial held in March. "This decision should be a blaring red stoplight for local officials thinking of copying Hazleton's misguided and unconstitutional law," said Witold J. Walczak, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, which represented the plaintiffs.

The money trail: The Republcian Town Committee finance report

OH, YOU GOTTA SEE THIS.
As I stated in an earlier post, I'm posing the campaign finance disclosure statements that were filed on July 10th. The second statement we'll examine is the report from the Republican Town Committee.
When I first read this report, I thought I was seeing things...in fact, I'm still in a state of disbelief. As of July 10th, the Danbury Republicans have as a balance on hand a eye-popping 1,188.31 DOLLARS with ZERO contributions collected during the last reporting period (April-July).
ZERO
This is a a HUGE difference when compared to the Democratic Town Committee, which reported over 8,000.00 at the end of the reporting period (DTC report and Abrantes report will be posted soon).
I'll do a follow-up post on this subject and pose some intriguing questions to you readers later but some of you already know where I'm heading with this...
Need to take a moment to fix a computer problem. I'm really giving my hard drives a beating and I need to move some files before I lose everything (and that would be a BAD thing).

UPDATE: Backing up a 300+gig hard drive is a real pain in the ass. I've added a new poll as well as a couple of new tools to the site. Although, you were able to translate this page into any language in the pass, I made it easier to translate this site into Spanish and Portuguese by moving the option to the top of the links section.

Seems like the link section of this site didn't display properly in Internet Explorer. You see, I'm a Macintosh guy and I rarely use WindowsXP so I had no idea that the site was all screwed up.
Well, the site wasn't really "screwed up" but rather I was using a CSS code that isn't 100 percent compatible with Internet Explorer. IF you use a Mac and view this site using Safari or if you use Firefox, you're probably scratching your head and wondering what's the big problem. You see, Windows is too lazy to get their act together and upgrade their browser so bloggers like me have to dumb down our sites to deal with the compatibility nightmare.
Anyway, I fixed the error and the site should look better now. I'm make more adjustments for WindowsXP users later but at least everything is back where it should be and you can see the new links I've added to the site (e.g., Mayor Boughton's campaign financial statement, link to the Santos family support blog, video highlights of Tom Bennett's violations, HatCityBLOG video vault, Danbury Live archive, etc).
DROP Internet Explorer and download Firefox already! Trust me, you'll be happy for making the switch.

The former City Clerk and multi-term Common Council member blasted Boughton for creating a atmosphere of divisiveness with his stance on immigration as well as criticizing him for irresponsible development, lack of working in a bi-partisan manner, sending the city into debt with over-bonding, lowering the quality of life for residents in the city, and a host of other issues that are on the minds of most residents who are unsatisfied with the current status-quo.

Poor Elise.
It seems like our favorite "deer in the headlights" and President of the local anti-immigrant whack-pack's scam of a vigil didn't fool anyone besides the anti-immigrant xenophobes who refuse to use any common sense or exhibit any sense of moral decency.
These two members of the clergy shows Marciano the error in her ways...not like this stubborn woman would listen to anything resembling reason.
We were dismayed by Sunnye Ann Rosasco's comments (letter, July 11) about the low clergy attendance at the vigil for victims of undocumented workers.
As Christians, we know perfect love casts out all fear. And we know focusing public attention on victims of the few undocumented workers who have committed crimes builds fear and empowers generalization and degradation of all undocumented workers as well as many legal and naturalized Latino immigrants.
As Christians, in reading Torah (First Testament, Pentateuch), we are reminded that we are all aliens, that this world and everything in it belongs to God. And we are told that we are to treat "aliens" in the way we wish to be treated.
As Christians, we are told that whatever we do to the very least of God's people, we do to our Lord. When we victimize all undocumented workers, taking away their dignity and turning our hearts against them, we do it to him.
We have made those we label the least victims of our hate and fear. How, then, can most of us who call ourselves Christian, and those of us who are clergy, attend a vigil that builds hate toward all people who are labeled undocumented because of the harm some have brought to others?
If we cannot have a vigil for all people who have fallen victim to violence, including immigrants, legal and undocumented, we should not be part of a gathering that singles out any one group as all evil.

We need immigration reform. We all agree with that. But we do not agree to the criminalizing of all the undocumented. They, too, are children of God.

In honor of this great letter, I present this following video that further drives the point home.
NOTE TO NEWSTIMES: Please stop writing every story the Mayor's office pitches to you. If Boughton has been doing his feel good "meetings with the mayor" for months, DON'T write a do-nothing fluff piece days after he starts his re-election campaign. Although the mayor rules over every branch of government, it doesn't mean he controls the press.
Hold the mayor accountable for his miserable record, not write fluff pieces that gives a false impression that this mayor actually listens to the concerns of his residents. This meeting garbage is just another in a long list of do-nothing gimmicks (311 system, proposed "Live with the Mayor" television show, over-sized political billboards) that's only designed to boost the mayor's ever-growing ego rather than address the real concerns of everyday residents such as:
• OUTRAGEOUS TAX BREAKS TO RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPERS.
• UNACCEPTABLE traffic concerns.
• Failure to address developmental problems UNTIL AFTER THE FACT.
• A embarrassing downtown area.
• Ignoring the City Charter whenever HE chooses.
• Ignoring proposal after proposal the Democrats raise only to later adopt them as his own at a later point and claim the credit.
• Leading the charge with a clueless and absolute worthless Republican Common Council majority in passing one bad ordinance after another bad ordinance, only to set up an ad-hoc committee to ADDRESS THE VERY PROBLEMS THE DEMOCRATS RAISED when the ordinance was being debated.
• Using such knee-jerking topics such as immigration (parade ordinance) and the threat of sexual predators (sex offender ordinance) in order to force YOUR proposals though the legislative process (both ordinances are RIDDLED with well-known problems).
• Failing to address well-known issues before it's too late (e.g. traffic nightmare at Elmer's "Politics over the People" Diner).
• Repeatedly take credit for projects that the previous administration started (Magnet School, New Parking garage) while blaming the previous administration for his own failures (not addressing the traffic concerns with Elmer's diner, irresponsible development, degrading of the downtown area).
Remember, it's "Politics over the people" not "People over Politics"

On September 26, 2007, ten plaintiffs filed suit in response to an arrest of aday laborers at a public park in Danbury, Connecticut. Plaintiffs amended their complaint on November 26, 2007.
The amended complaint states that plaintiffs sought to remedy the continued discriminatory and unauthorized enforcement of federal immigration laws against the Latino residents of the City of Danbury by Danbury's mayor and its police department.
Plaintiffs allege that the arrests violated their Fourth Amendment rights and the Connecticut Constitution because defendants conducted the arrests without valid warrants, in the absence of exigent circumstances, and without probable cause to believe that plaintiffs were engaged in unlawful activity. In addition, plaintiffs allege that defendants improperly stopped, detained, investigated, searched and arrested plaintiffs. Plaintiffs also allege that defendants violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights when they intentionally targeted plaintiffs, and arrested and detained them on the basis of their race, ethnicity and perceived national origin. Plaintiffs raise First Amendment, Due Process and tort claims.
Plaintiffs request declaratory relief, damages and attorneys fees.
