It's like groundhog day with Boughton all over again!
In 2009, while running for re-election, Mark Boughton was asked by the media and Democratic mayoral candidate Gary Goncalves if he has considering a run for statewide office, the mayor was always very coy in his denial in wanting to run for governor.
Fast forward to 2011, with the announcement that Chris Murphy plans to run for senate, given Boughton's past, and the current weak list of Republican rumored to run for the 5th Congressional district seat, why should anyone believe that Boughton's statement to the Register Citizen:
Other Republicans who were rumored to be interested in the 5th district seat include mayors Mark Boughton of Danbury and Ryan Bingham of Torrington.
“You never say never,” Boughton said on Thursday. “Right now I am focused on reelection in Danbury. You always have to think about it, but right now I am focused on Danbury.”
Pleaze! If Boughton had to punch in when he entered his office at City Hall during his campaign for governor, I'm certain that one would see that he logged in less than 30 hours a week!
After everything he said about not running for governor when he ran for mayor, if you believe the notion that Boughton is not running for higher office again then shame on you. Although it's REAL early, I can almost guarantee you that Boughton WILL run for Congress. As the case in 2009, he won't make his intentions known until after November as he doesn't want to hurt his chances at re-election this year.
Well, I finally did it...after all these years, I finally made an appearance on Danbury's popular local access TV show "Community Forum."
During last week's taping, I sat down with host John Gogliettino and talked about the state of journalism in Greater Danbury and the lack of quality reporting on local government by the area's media outlets.
I want to thank the Community Forum crew for everything...as someone who assist in producing shows on Comcast, I was REALLY impressed with Gogliettino's operation.
NEW BRITAIN - Today, Congressman Chris Murphy (CT-5) is announcing his candidacy for the United States Senate. He released the following statement:
"I've decided to run for the United States Senate in 2012 because I believe that I can be a stronger voice for the issues that matter to Connecticut, like creating good jobs and ending these costly wars, in the Senate.
"This wasn't an easy decision for me. My heart is in the Fifth District, where Cathy and I are raising our son, and my top priority will continue to be doing this job that I love. I only take this step because I believe I can be an even stronger voice for change in the United States Senate.
"I'm thankful for all the encouragement I have received to take this step, from family, friends, and people across the state. What I've heard is that people feel that the Senate simply doesn't work anymore - it's become an unjustifiable barrier to positive change, and Connecticut needs a fresh, progressive voice there that will push for both policy and institutional reform. "
And with that, we have two Democrats who are officially in the senate race.
What are your thoughts on Murphy entering the senate field? Is this a smart move by Murphy or a mistake that can cost Democrats in Connecticut a rather safe congressional seat?

On September 26, 2007, ten plaintiffs filed suit in response to an arrest of aday laborers at a public park in Danbury, Connecticut. Plaintiffs amended their complaint on November 26, 2007.
The amended complaint states that plaintiffs sought to remedy the continued discriminatory and unauthorized enforcement of federal immigration laws against the Latino residents of the City of Danbury by Danbury's mayor and its police department.
Plaintiffs allege that the arrests violated their Fourth Amendment rights and the Connecticut Constitution because defendants conducted the arrests without valid warrants, in the absence of exigent circumstances, and without probable cause to believe that plaintiffs were engaged in unlawful activity. In addition, plaintiffs allege that defendants improperly stopped, detained, investigated, searched and arrested plaintiffs. Plaintiffs also allege that defendants violated their Fourteenth Amendment rights when they intentionally targeted plaintiffs, and arrested and detained them on the basis of their race, ethnicity and perceived national origin. Plaintiffs raise First Amendment, Due Process and tort claims.
Plaintiffs request declaratory relief, damages and attorneys fees.
